UCLA GYMNASTICS
Being in the role of Team Videographer for the UCLA Gymnastics team since 2014 has given me an incredible platform and the unparalleled opportunity to hone my skills in telling compelling stories while connecting our athletes with our fan base. Over the years I’ve produced an extensive amount of content including, social media, talk shows, features, senior videos, intro videos, and a seven-part docuseries.
2020 Intro Video
Directed by Deanna Hong & Ryan Parma. Edited by Deanna Hong. Color by James Knott. Sound Mix by Jason Powell.
2020 Senior Video
Video honoring our iconic class of 2020 seniors that included two Olympic gold medalists, USA National Team members, and multiple All-Americans.
The New Era - Episode 2
My docuseries, “The New Era,” followed the 2020 UCLA Gymnastics team through a turbulent year that was abruptly ended by the COVID-19 pandemic. The long-form docuseries style enabled me to tell our athletes’ stories in a way that we’ve never done before.
Love, Kalyany
Freshman Kalyany Steele became one of the first openly LGBTQ+ women in collegiate gymnastics when she shared her journey of coming out as bisexual for National Coming Out Day.
2019 Intro Video
Intro video for the 2019 UCLA Gymnastics season, honoring Miss Val's legacy in her 29th and final season as the head coach of UCLA Gymnastics. (Editor. Director: Ariana Berlin, DP: Dom Zanghi)
Katelyn Ohashi's Viral Floor Routine
Yes, it’s THAT video. The one that’s been watched over 125 million times, turning Katelyn Ohashi into a household name. When I shot and uploaded this routine after the meet, we had no idea that it was going to blow up. Grateful that I get to share Kate’s light with the world.
The Hunt: Gymnastics Wins NCAA Championship // April 2018
Every year at Nationals I shoot, edit and release a narrated behind-the-scenes video each day over the span of four days. It is exhausting, but very rewarding to push the limits of content creation in the gymnastics world.
This year, after four years working with this program, it was very emotional to be a part of our 7th National Championship, a come-from-behind victory for the history books.
UCLA Gymnastics - 2018 Senior Video // March 2018
Every year I’ve had the opportunity to honor each annual senior class by making a video that we screen in Pauley Pavilion during our senior meet. The Class of 2018 was particularly special for me because they were freshmen during my first year with the team, meaning that I've had the privilege of working with this group for their entire college careers.
Together We Rise - UCLA & Oklahoma Gymnastics // February 2018
The UCLA and Oklahoma University's women's gymnastics teams came together to create this video in support of the courageous survivors who have spoken out about abuse in gymnastics and beyond. (It was an incredible experience to have a video that I wrote, directed, and edited aired on ESPN.)
Mic'd Up: Pauline Tratz // March 2018
Mic’d Up is a fan-favorite. There’s no better way to show off the charming, hilarious and endearing personalities of our athletes than by letting the fans see how they are in their natural state during competition.
The Bru-lywed Game: Texas Edition // December 2017
Every year I produce a preseason video series that aims to introduce our fans to the various personalities on our team. For the 2018 season, our series was “The Bru-lywed Game” (a terrible pun, but I still gladly take credit for it), which gave fans an adorable and often hilarious peek into the relationships between these teammates.
Carpool Choreography: Episode 6 - Peng-Peng Lee // December 2016
Before the 2017 season, our pre-season series was Carpool Choreography, based on James Corden’s popular Carpool Karaoke series, but with a gymnastics twist. This was a super fun series to make… although I will be just fine if I never hear a laugh track again ;)
UCLA Gymnastics - A Texas Storm is Bruin: Day 4 // April 2015
This is an old one, but I’m still proud of it. Samantha Peszek captured the 2015 NCAA Balance Beam title, paving the way for a line of UCLA Bruins who have claimed the beam title every year since (Danusia Francis 2016, Kyla Ross 2017, Peng-Peng Lee 2018).
"Dear Miss Val" - Valorie Kondos Field 25 Year Tribute // March 2015
A slew of former UCLA gymnastics legends came together in this tribute to Valorie Kondos Field, known to the gymnastics world as Miss Val, for her 25th year as head coach.
UCLA Coaches Read UCLA Gymnasts' Tweets // March 2015
In what remains one of our most popular videos to date, we had our coaching staff read tweets from our student-athletes and guess who had composed them, predictably resulting in hilarity.
